That is why most people who choose to have real Bonsai trees did not only choose the variety because of its beauty but the art and difficulty of creating it. And so, to give credits to the hard work of those who made your Bonsai tree, you should be able to take care of the plant well. Here are the steps you should do to maintain a harmonious relationship with your beloved Bonsai tree:
1. Choose the best place for the Bonsai tree. If you will put it indoors, make sure you place it where the morning or late afternoon sunlight can reach it. Make sure also that the site is also a cool place that can protect the plant from direct afternoon sunlight. Meanwhile, if you will place the Bonsai tree outdoors, ensure that the place has light shade and a strong protection against harsh wind. You should also move your outdoor Bonsai plant indoors before the fall starts.
2. Regularly check the plant for dryness. Feel if the soil surface is dry. When it is, water the soil by placing it in a pan having water about one to two inches in depth. Soak the pot until the soil is moist enough. Remove the pan and drain the excess water.
3. Remove salt and mineral build-up. You can do this by watering the Bonsai from the top and allow the water to drain through.
4. Fertilize the Bonsai. It is best that you put fertilizer on the plant every other month so that it won’t consume too much or too little fertilizer. Never fertilize the plant when it is flowering.
5. Check the Bonsai tree leaves regularly. There may be pests and insects that might consume your Bonsai’s foliage. So better check the leaves regularly and if there are insects or pests, remove them with plant insecticides or soapy water solution.
6. Preserve the nice shape of the Bonsai tree. Pruning is the best way to do this. With pruning, you can make your Bonsai bushier. Do this by pinching off the young tips of the plant. You can also use peppers and herb tips for better pruning.
7. Place the Bonsai plant in a bright, humid, and cool place during winter.
8. Bonsai trees need to be re-potted every two or three years.
With these simple tips and enough effort for your Bonsai tree, you will definitely enjoy your miniature plant longer. Who knows, you might just develop the natural green thumb in you and discover a plant-loving side of yourself.
